🎿The cable cars of the Balme ski area (Vallorcine/Le Tour at 2200 meters) are at the foot of the residence. The Poya ski area (second ski resort 5 minutes away) is ideal for beginners and families (very cheap ski passes). The Grands Montets ski area (2700 meters, in Argentières - 15 minutes by car) and Verbier (regularly in the top 3 of the best resorts in the world - 40 minutes from Vallorcine) close on May 1st, you can ski during the Easter holidays 👍

1) The closest, at the foot of the residence: Domaine de la Balme / Vallorcine

The Balme, Vallorcine area is more of an area for intermediate skiers.

The main ski area consists of 19 slopes: 11 blue, 7 red and 1 black. It is accessed by the Vallorcine cable car at the foot of the residence.

The possibilities for sliding are varied, the terrain is hilly and often passes through the forest.

3) The Grands Montets ski area in Argentières (15 minutes by car from Vallorcine)

Les Grands Montets is the largest ski resort in the Chamonix Valley (over 1800 hectares) and certainly the most popular ski area in the Alps.

It is located above the village of Argentières (a small alpine village 8km from Chamonix). The highest point of the resort is the Top des Grands Montets at 3295m.

5) Nordic Skiing

More than 50km of slopes available in the valley

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc has a Nordic ski area of around fifty kilometres marked out in alternative and skating, spread between Les Houches, Chamonix, Argentière and Vallorcine. For example, you will find climbs and descents in the middle of the forest in the moraine of the Glacier des Bois, a trail that winds along an old moraine in Argentière or even trails in a preserved natural setting in Vallorcine, between 1260 m and 1337 m above sea level.

Four sites to discover:

* Vallorcine sector:

A small introductory loop is marked out opposite the foyer for beginners. The green Mermy, 1km, is on the other side of the estate. Also discover the blue Courzilles over 3.5km and the red Mayens, over 6.5km, reserved for fit cross-country skiers.

* Argentière sector:

Here again, three trails are available to cross-country skiers, including the Moraine, a not easy red trail measuring 9.5 km. Les Chosalets, a blue trail measuring 3.5 km, and the green trail of the Iles, 1.5 km very close to the car park, complete this sector.

* Houches sector:

Two loops, length 2800m, are available next to the Lac des Chavants. Quality snow and above all guaranteed on the Nordic route of the Prarion plateau. Access by cable car. Please note that the track is mostly groomed, but not marked.

* Chamonix sector:

Three slopes await you just a few minutes from the city center. The red Bois trail is 11.6 km long, the green Bois du Bouchet trail is 2.7 km long and the blue trail called Orthaz is 6.3 km long.

6) ESF Vallorcine with free shuttle to La Poya

A team of 25 instructors qualified by the French Ski School who invite you to discover natural environments and ski areas suitable for all levels.

Free shuttles to the start of the courses (Poya area): a shuttle service is available to students enrolled in ESF Vallorcine courses, whose course departure point is located in the Poya area. The meeting point for the departure and arrival of the shuttles is opposite the ESF office at the gondola, 100 meters from the Résidence Les Portes du Mont Blanc Dormio.
